about Boomer Esiason I get a smile across my face. Other than Ken
Anderson and currently Carson Palmer the Bengals have not had many
Pro Bowl caliber quarterbacks. Boomer was that type of QB, and a great

- The most
prolific left-handed quarterback in NFL history when he retired
in 1997. Career marks rank among the top ten in the NFL in all-time
passing yards, career completions and career attempts. Led the
Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII vs San Francisco in 1988.
- Esiason
set 17 school records for passing and total offense during an
All-American career at the University of Maryland. He led the
Terrapins to the Atlantic Coast Conference title and a Citrus
Bowl berth in 1983.
- Esiason has
become a leading national figure in the fight against cystic fibrosis,
where he has established the Boomer Esiason Foundation raising
millions of dollars to battle the disease. He and his wife, Cheryl,
have been named honorary chairs of Building Bridges to a Cure,
the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation major gift campaign for
its Therapeutics Development Program. Esiason has also worked
with other community organizations: United Way, March of Dimes
and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Foundation.

| Boomer Esiason,
who quarterbacked the Bengals, Jets and Cardinals during a 14-year
NFL career, is a studio analyst on CBS Sports NFL pre-game show, THE
NFL TODAY. Esiason was selected in the second round of the 1984 NFL
draft by the Bengals. In 1986 he earned his first Pro Bowl bid while
leading the NFL's most productive offense. In 1988 he led the NFL
with a 97.4 passer rating and helped the Bengals win the AFC championship
before bowing to San Francisco in Super Bowl XXIII. In 1993 after
a trade to the Jets, Esiason became a Pro Bowler for a second time.
In only three seasons with the Jets, he became the team's fourth-leading
passer all-time. After a year playing for the Arizona Cardinals, he
returned to Cincinnati where he ended his career with 2,969 completions
in 5,205 pass attempts (57% completion percentage) for 247 touchdowns
and 37,920 yards. |
